Tractor Woes and Hurricane Harvey

September 4, 2017

Early September is the big Fall/Winter push. As the days get shorter things grow much slower, so everything has to get into the ground at a certain time or it will not be ready to harvest at the time you need it.  Our salad mix successions for Winter are planted every week for harvest weeks apart in December/January to give you an idea as to how crucial timing is.  Cue the tractor breaking.

Luckily it is not a big problem, just the fuel pump needing to be replaced. We decided to forgo trying to fix the problem ourselves this time, due to lack of time, and got local mechanic "Tractor Joe" to come pick up the tractor for the quickest fix possible.  We're hoping to get it back by late Monday or early Tuesday so we can spend the rest of the week planting and seeding. Certain crops have to go in asap, and it was going to rain all weekend, so we couldn't wait for the tractor. John spent the better part of Friday making raised beds by hand, a daunting task. It worked though, so we know that we can get in at least some crops early this week.

Here's hoping we get the tractor back quickly so we can get back into the fields and plant the 5,000+ plants currently residing in our greenhouse, plus the 60,000+ seeds we will be direct seeding into the ground.

We are collecting donations for Animal Alliance this week at pickup. They have taken in 15 pups (along with the hundreds of other animals they are taking care of) from Texas and are in dire need of some supplies. They are also in need of foster homes/adoptions if anyone is looking to add a pup to their family! Bring any donations to pickup and we will make sure that animal alliance gets it.  I've been sitting each night with one foster pup that DeAnna's restaurant is fostering and she has been so scared she wouldn't walk. Just last night we got her up and running around like the happy puppy that she is!

What they need:
Canned Cat Food (any brand)
Canned Dog Food (any brand)
Dry Puppy food (complete wellness brand)
Dry Cat Food: Nutro brand Indoor Formula or High Protein Formula
